Nitrogen and phosphorus are two of the primary nutrient pollutants in the Bay's ecosystem. In order to better understand and thereby control these contaminants, the EPA's Chesapeake Bay Program monitors water quality and creates computer models based, in part, on those results. Recent modeling results and how this informs efforts to maintain and improve the health of the Bay are well presented by Karl Blankenship in the Bay Journal at:
