Sources of Air Pollution
in the Watershed

Airborne pollutants contribute significantly to water quality challenges in the Bay; after all, what goes up must come down. Nitrogen in the form of nitrogen oxides from burning fossil fuels, whether in cars and trucks or in power plants, represents an estimated 25 percent of the nitrogen entering the Bay. Investing in cleaner vehicles and better transit reduces air pollution and its impact on the Bay and on our lungs.
