Green Infrastructure

Infrastructure is the term used to cover all the behind-the-scenes elements needed to make the built environment (where people live and work) operate, from power plants and police stations to sewers and schools. Green infrastructure refers to the natural system's needs from forest to wetland. Maintaining a healthy green infrastructure keeps the natural environment working and the quality of life in the built environment high. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has developed a green infrastructure map to indicate where valuable elements of the natural system exist throughout the state.
