Natural Ecology of
the Bay
Data on Natural Resources
That natural resource
lands are being lost to development is not news. What is news,
however, is the rate at which this is taking place. About 143,000
acres of land are currently developed throughout the Chesapeake
Bay watershed every year, according to National Resources Inventory
data released in January, 2001. Moreover, this rate of development
has been increasing since the NRI was initiated in 1982.
