Preservation
Cultural and natural
connections are significant both for historical context and
to maintain a high quality of life. Preserving working farmland,
for example, strengthens the economy and provides an ongoing
link to local history. At another remove, maintaining open space
within developed or developing areas provides local recreational
and educational opportunities while reducing impacts on the
regional environment. Reuse of existing buildings, such as converting
old warehouses to lofts, can reinvigorate urbanized areas while
serving historic preservation goals.
