Mixed Use

Appropriately scaled building blocks are enhanced by including retail and other uses along the street to provide functional and interesting environments. Mixing uses, such as office above retail, also provides the opportunity for neighborhoods to be relatively self-sufficient, avoiding lengthy trips for every errand. Ensuring a mix of uses and housing types better accommodates the variety of today's emerging workforce as well. Combined, these elements create an active street life, which fosters community belonging and increases the sense of security.
