Smart Growth
Smart growth is not anti-growth.
It is intelligent, informed development of neighborhoods and
communities in patterns that serve long-term needs of growth
and change - economically, environmentally, and socially.
Smart growth is not new, either. It is part of our history
and promises to be part of our future as well.
Examples of many of the ideas encompassed in the phrase "smart
growth" can be found throughout the watershed; the key
to growing intelligently, however, is integrating common sense
with thoughtful, quality design, and making that the standard
of development. The basic precepts of smart growth include
the concepts of human scale, mixed use, access, preservation,
and economics.
